Oracle - December 22, 2002
This month, I will prophecy only one Oracle.
I predict that Peter Jackson & New Line Cinema's Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers will gross $350 million in the United States and $550 million Internationally. These predictions go against the normal fate that befalls sequels - namely that they do poorer than their originals.
I am bullish on The Two Towers because I believe that the fan base is much larger than it was before The Fellowship came out. Millions are starting to see what we Tolkienities have known for generations - how mighty of a story Professor Tolkien wrote. Also, the love story of Arwen and Aragorn is being emphasized. More women will come out to see the film because of this.
Maximum Points at Stake: 15
Difficulty Scale: 3
Accuracy of Prediction: I will
multiply my score by 5 if both domestic and Worldwide predictions are within 2.5
percent of the final tally. I will multiply my score by 4 if my predictions are
within 5 percent of the actual totals. Multiply by 3 if I am within 8 percent of
the actual totals, multiply by 2 if within 12 percent of the totals, and by 1 if
within 20 percent of the total. I get nothing if I am more than 20 percent off.
